The first town as you enter the county from the north. This is where one of three district parks is located which has ball fields, soccer fields, tennis and basketball courts, playground, picnic area, trails, and a skate board park. There are several small shopping centers which include a grocery store, a few office buildings, fire house and post office.
Owings
There is a little town with a bank, post office and gas station/convenience store but you can live from the river almost to the bay and still have an Owings address. There is also an area called Chaneyville which has a small shopping center and roller skating rink.
Throughout the area of Owings you will find Northern High School, Northern Middle School, Mt. Harmony Elementary School and Windy Hill Elementary School.
Chesapeake Beach
You can live in the town limits or 7 miles from the town and still have a Chesapeake Beach address. Breezy Point is a popular park on the Chesapeake Bay for swimming, fishing, boating and camping.

North Beach
Sunderland
This is a small postal area, mostly residential. There is a park and ride, Sunderland Elementary School and a couple businesses.

Huntingtown
This is a small town center with a few stores, Huntingtown High School, Huntingtown Elementary, Kings Landing Park and a fire department. This is a large postal area which extends from the Patuxent River to the Chesapeake Bay.
Prince Frederick
Prince Frederick is our county seat and where you will find the courthouse and our county government offices. This is the largest commercial area so there are more stores and restaurants than anywhere in the county. The county hospital is located here as well as two firehouses, Calvert High School, Calvert Middle School, Calvert Elementary School, Calvert County School and the community college College of Southern Maryland. This is one of four areas in the county with public water and sewer. A district park is close by.
Barstow
Small rural area with just a post office.
Broomes Island
Quaint, small town on the Patuxent River and Island Creek. The oyster house is gone but there is a small “mom and pop” store and a great waterfront restaurant.
Port Republic
A small rural area with two tourist attractions -- restored one room school house and Battle Creek Cypress Swamp. Mutual Elementary School is in this area.
St. Leonard
A small town center with a gas station / convenience store, fire house, a couple small stores and St. Leonard Elementary School. St. Leonard Creek is a top cruising destination for boaters and Jefferson Patterson Park & Museum and Flag Ponds Nature Park are great recreational parks.
Lusby
White Sands and Cheapeake Ranch Estates are two of the largest communities in the county. There is a town center with a hardware store, gas station, restaurant and the area has been approved for a major grocery store. Patuxent High School, Southern Middle School, Patuxent Elementary School and Appeal Elementary School are located here. This is where you will find Cove Point Lighthouse - the oldest continuous operating lighthouse in the U.S., Cove Point District Park, Calvert Cliffs State Park and the Nuclear Power Plant, Southern Community Center, Cove Point LNG plant.
Dowell
A small postal area where Dowell Elementary School and Mill Creek Middle School is located.
Solomons
The largest tourist attraction in the county is home to Drum Point Lighthouse, Calvert Marine Museum, the William B. Tennison buy boat, Ann Marie Gardens a 30 acre Sculpture Garden on St. Johns Creek and Solomons Island which is one of the most popular boating destinations on the Chesapeake Bay with several restaurants, small shops and a boardwalk.
